Vanilla Chai Hot Chocolate

Yield: approximately 2 servings

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups milk (e.g., whole, goat, or coconut milk)
  • 1 chai tea bag
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 ounces dark chocolate, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 shot espresso (optional)
  • Sweetener of choice (e.g., honey, maple syrup, or sugar), to taste
  • Whipped cream and chocolate shavings, for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Heat Milk: In a saucepan over medium heat, warm the milk until it's steaming but not boiling.
  2. Steep Chai: Add the chai tea bag and cinnamon stick to the hot milk. Let it steep for about 5 minutes to infuse the flavors.
  3. Add Spices and Chocolate: Remove the tea bag and cinnamon stick. Stir in the ground cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, cocoa powder, and chopped dark chocolate. Continue stirring until the chocolate is fully melted and the mixture is smooth.
  4. Incorporate Vanilla and Espresso: Add the vanilla extract and espresso (if using). Stir well to combine.
  5. Sweeten: Taste the hot chocolate and add your preferred sweetener to achieve the desired sweetness.
  6. Serve: Pour the hot chocolate into mugs. Top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings for an extra indulgent touch.
