Brazilian Hot Chocolate

Yield: approximately 3 cups

 

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups (480 ml) whole milk
  • ½ cup (120 ml) heavy whipping cream
  • ¼ cup (60 ml) sweetened condensed milk (adjust to taste)
  • 2 cinnamon sticks​
  • Optional Garnishes: freshly whipped cream, shaved chocolate, sprinkle of ground cinnamon

 

Instructions:

  1. Whip the Cream: In a mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Reserve a few spoonfuls for garnish.​
  2. Combine Ingredients: In a saucepan, combine the whipped cream, milk, and cinnamon sticks. Stir to mix.​
  3. Heat the Mixture: Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.​
  4. Add Chocolate: Once simmering, add the chopped chocolate to the saucepan. Stir continuously until the chocolate is fully melted and the mixture is smooth.​
  5. Sweeten: Stir in the sweetened condensed milk. Adjust the amount to achieve your desired sweetness.​
  6. Remove Cinnamon Sticks: Take out the cinnamon sticks from the mixture.​
  7. Serve: Pour the hot chocolate into mugs. Top with the reserved whipped cream, shaved chocolate, and a sprinkle of ground cinnamon, if desired.​
